Potentially one of the most difficult, and rewarding, things that I have done is selling our house. This was a house that we built off the plan. The land we bought was a mere paddock at the time, and some six years later it was a busy, well-established suburb.
We toyed with the idea of renting it out for the 12 months, and eventually decided that selling our house would be the best option for us. After finally making the decision to sell, there was a lot to do:
- DECLUTTER – We had accumulated so many ‘things’ that we just didn’t need. We donated a lot of clothing and homewares to charity, held a couple of garage sales to clear excess sale-able goods, and also took a couple of trips to the local tip. The whole process of decluttering was almost cleansing – I truly was amazed at how materialistic we had become.
- MINOR REPAIRS – Whilst there wasn’t a lot of repairs requires, we did complete a few odd jobs to improve the look of the house – painting, minor landscaping etc.
After the house was ready for sale, we listed and sold within 5 weeks! After 45 days, the house settled, and we had moved out. It all seemed to happen very quickly in the end, however there was a little time for reflection…. In all, in this house, we celebrated 21 birthdays, 6 Christmas Days, and 1 birth (our beautiful baby girl!)
It really was the end of an era, and the start of something amazingly exciting!!!!
