Hi guys sorry I took so long to update you all, but we have been doing so many cool things, I just haven’t had time to get on the computer! Here are a few of my highlights from the different places we’ve been through South Australia.
Sunday morning we left Tailem Bend and went for a 3 hour drive to Barossa Tourist Park in Nuriootpa. That day Lachie and I played footy – Lachie was Adelaide Crows, and I was Geelong Cats. I won by 64 points! After the game, I had a shower, and took a while because it was the best shower I had had for a long time, it was very relaxing and refreshing.
That night Dad and I went down to the shops and bought a few things, when we got back we relaxed and talked for while, then went to bed.
The next day (Monday) I had a sleep in. At 10am we drove around Barossa, visited the Whispering Wall, wandered through the Jacobs Creek winery, Mum and Dad did a little bit of tasting, and then we had lunch at Vine Inn, it was yummy. When we got back Lachie, Dad and I went for a swim in the swimming pool, which was freezing. Mum and Madi stayed and had a sleep. After that we just relaxed, had a chat and played cards, then went to sleep.
Tuesday morning we left Barossa at 10am and arrived at Black Point at 1pm. It took a while to set up because we added a few more things, because it was windy. After we set up, we went down to check out the beach. The next day (Wednesday) early in the morning Dad went down to the beach and took his phone for light, a skate (a bit like a sting ray) and a garfish was following him. As the sun came up Dad saw dolphins but I wasn’t there because I was asleep. During the day I was doing a bit of my blog. At lunch time we went 400 metres down the beach and caught 6 Pufferfish, 5 Mullet and 1 crab and didn’t eat any because all of the fish were too small. Thursday was a bit of a quiet day, but at night we all told spooky stories. When I did mine Lachie got scared. Friday night we watched Adelaide Crows vs Hawthorn Hawks. Hawks won by 3 points, then I slowly went to sleep in the camper. A bit later, Lachie and Dad woke me up because we got the swag set up down at the beach. We slept down there, and did some fishing at 3am in the morning. Dad caught a Mullet and Dad woke me up because he caught a good size Whiting. We woke up in the morning and had some coffee and hot chocolates. After that we did 4wd driving. When we stopped for lunch, Lachie, Madi and I went up all of the sand dunes, one of them we nearly sunk I left my thong there and I couldn’t find it, and I had to dig for it. That night we did a camp fire and roasted marshmallows. This time we didn’t catch any fish.
In the morning we packed up the swag and everything down at the beach. During the day I caught a good size whiting. After all of that it was a quiet Sunday. The next morning it was ANZAC Day, so we went to the Ardrossan Dawn Service at 6am. While we were there, we had bacon, scrambled eggs and baked beans on toast. When we got back Dad and I went fishing on the inflatable boat. I caught a dozen tiny guarnet and a double banger with a Mullet and a tiny Guarnet. When we got back, we watched the footy and Essendon Bombers got thumped – it was boring. Tuesday morning we had Whiting for breakfast, it was really yummy. At 4:00pm Dad and I went fishing on the boat again this time it was high tide so we weren’t that far out, Dad caught a nice squid that we had for dinner, it was so yummy. After tea, Madi and I went to bed and then Mum, Dad and Lachie.
We stayed for a few extra days, then left to go to Innes National Park.
Innes National Park
In Innes National Park, we stayed at Browns Beach. Madi, Lachie and I played on some really cool sand dunes while Mum & Dad set up. That night we had a campfire and roasted marshmallows.
The next day, we went fishing off a jetty, but unfortunately didn’t catch anything. After, we went to Chinamans Beach, and caught a skate, but threw it back because it wasn’t good eating. Afterwards, we came home, had dinner and roasted marshmallows again. During the night, we had huge winds, so we had to pack up and slept in the car, then drove to Port Augusta.
We stayed at Port Augusta Caravan Park for two nights. I rode my bike around and found the TV Room. We didn’t do a lot at Port Augusta, because Mum and Dad were mainly packing to get ready for the next part of the trip, which was to the Outback.
After we left, we moved on to the Oasis Caravan Park in Coober Pedy. We went to the Breakaways, which is where Star Wars was made. 70 million years ago it was all a part of the ocean. 5 weeks ago there was a flood in Coober Pedy, and now there’s grass everywhere, instead of desert. We also went to Crocodile Harrys’ house, and it had bras and messages written all over the walls and the roof. In the main street, we saw the Star Wars spaceship on display, but we didn’t get to go in it. In Coober Pedy, many of the houses are underground, because it gets too hot above ground. We got to have a look through one of the houses, which belonged to a local lady named Faye. She built the house by herself, with the help of a couple of her friends, all handmade.
Mum and I also went on a tour around Toms Working Mine. Did you know that opals are diamonds, emeralds and rubys all mixed together? Opals were made before humans, when dinosaurs died in the water. Their fossils became opals. You can only find them in outback places, and black based opals are most rare!
